Fly Fishing Class-- Chapel Hill

We’ve packed a lot of information into an eight hour day, including: casting, knots, equipment, fishing strategies and fly selection, for cold water, warm water and saltwater species.

Beginners can expect to learn the skills that will allow them to catch fish on their own, and intermediate level fly fishers can advance their casting skills and fill in some holes in their technical knowledge. 

We provide all equipment, including a textbook, flies, as well as lunch and drinks. Just bring your sense of humor, a willingness to have fun and learn, but register early as most classes are filled to capacity.

Syllabus:

• Equipment introduction: Anatomy of a fly rod and reel, leader and tippet. Different rod weights for different types of fishing.
• Instructor led hands on casting instruction on the water: Our experienced instructors will get beginners casting for the first time and improve casting for those with some prior experience.
• Catered lunch to keep the energy flowing!
• Flies and knots: Back to the "classroom" to learn about different flies for trout, warmwater and saltwater and when to use them along with the knots rig everything up.
• Fishing: Back to the water for some actual fishing. Our instructors will reinforce what we learned earlier in the day and explain techniques for hooking and landing fish as we tie on real flies and catch real fish.
